Email and Potatoes

January 28, 2008

A struggling jobless man applied for a job in an insurance company.

During the interview the HR manager ask him if he knew how to use computer and internet, and if he does have an e-mail address.

The guy doesn’t have any computer background and answered “I don’t how to use computer and internet sir. And I don’t have e-mail address.”

”I’m sorry", said the HR manager, "If you don’t have an email, that means you do not exist. And we don’t hire anybody who doesn’t exist.

The man left with no hope at all. He didn’t know what to do, with only $20 in his pocket. He then decided to go to the supermarket and buy a 10Kg potato crate.

He then sold the potatoes in a door to door round. In less than two hours, he succeeded to double his capital. He do it three times that day, and returned home with $60.  The next day he do it again.  Realizing, he could survive this way he goes everyday to market earlier everyday and return late.  Thus, his money doubled or tripled every day. Shortly, he bought a cart, then a truck, and then he had his own fleet of delivery vehicles.

5 years later, the man is one of the biggest food retailers in the US.  He started to plan his family’s future, and decided to have a life insurance. He called an insurance broker, and chose a protection plan. During the conversation, insurance the broker asked him his email. The man replied, "I don’t have an email". The broker answered curiously, "You
don’t have an email, and yet have succeeded to build an empire. Can you imagine what you could have been if you had an email?"

Moral of the story:

***Computer, internet, emails or any other technology cannot make someone a millionaire, or smarter.  Technologies are just tools, for us to make it easier.  We still have to do the hard work!
