Having Fun With Keno

December 23, 2008

Before I was a Keno idiot, I don’t even know what Keno is.  I thought at first, it was an anime TV series.  When my friend invited me to play keno I thought were going to play an online computer game with anime characters on it.  It was later that I knew that Keno is somewhat like a crossbreed of lottery and a bingo.

A little information for Keno idiots like me, the word “keno” has French or Latin roots (Fr. quine five winning numbers, L. quini five each).  But Keno was originated in ancient China in the Han Dynasty between 205 and 187 B.C.  In the 19th century Chinese immigrants brought the game into America and that was the start of the evolution of Keno.  Nowadays Keno is famous in modern gaming places such as casino and online betting sites.

Playing Keno live and online is almost the same, the player may mark anywhere from 1 through 20 numbers on a card that has 80 numbers arranged in eight rows of ten. The player then takes the card to a keno writer and places a bet that the numbers selected will be among the 20 drawn in the next game.  The bet is in multiples of the house minimum which is usually $1.  After the 20 numbers are drawn, winning tickets are paid according to a table that varies from house to house.  Rules in playing Keno is easy to understand and most of all it is fun and exciting.
