The Confession of the Poker Idiot
January 20, 2009It is humbling, yet quite embarrassing to admit that I am completely and absolutely ignorant on some things. I prided myself as a “jane-of-all-trades”, a person who has a bits and pieces on almost everything. I may not be an expert to many of those things yet, I am always sure that I have a working knowledge about anything and everything that an average person ought to know. Well, that was before my friends invited me to a poker party. That poker party makes me realize that I am a mere mortal, that there are things that I should know but unfortunately I failed to know.
Almost everyone in this world knows how to play a poker, it is considered as the most popular card game in the world. Even kids and less educated person know how to play this famous card game, except me. I am absolutely ignorant about poker, this is quite embarrassing but I should admit that I am a poker IDIOT. Yep, that’s right idiot in bold and in all caps, because that is what I am. The only thing I knew about it, is that it is a card game. Period, and nothing else.
I don’t want to be a poker idiot all my life. I refuse to be poker idiot! And the only thing to improve this is for me study, to learn how to play that damn card game.
